STONEMASON

Stones

This is the area where geology and stone masonry overlap.

However, at this point the overlap more or less ends, and even names of divverent stones are frequently differnet in the worlds of geology and the stone industry.

I worked all of the variety of stones that were used by my father:

It is not necessary to go into very great depth on stone types and variations used in building and monumental work, but the main groups of stone follow the three main geological types of rock.

In my father's time, in monumental masonry, granite, sandstone, and marble were the most common.
