The Surface of the Earth:

 

It is by studying the surface of the earth, with relatively extremely little penetration of the surface, and supplemented by some extraterrestrial observations, that we have learned all we know about the earth

Topsoil to core:

 

The first little principle of geological process that I ever learned of concerned the particles that make up topsoil.

Whilst hill walking with my father I had noticed a small feature that occurred on the slopes of fells with short grass, those typically grazed by sheep.
