STONEMASON

Fireplaces & Hearth

Whilst the main bulk of my father's business was in the monumental category, there were a number of other miscellaneous types of work ranging from fireplaces to major work on Clitheroe Parish Church.

While working for my father I worked on stone window surrounds, and a small number of fireplaces along with headstones and plinths in the following stones: sandstone (most often 'York Stone'), marble (Italian Carrara), and slate (usually Westmorland 'green').

My last job in stonemasoning?

In October 2013 a friend was looking for a way of reconstructing a fireplace in his home. In my possession were two slabs of York stone salvaged from a fireplace in 1993, along with a few large pieces of mahogany. It was natural that these materials be put to good use, and so it fell on me to deal with the stone.

The tools that my father had retained were in my possession and, although minimal for the job, with improvisation I should be able to carry out the task.
